Oprah is known as one of the most famous and wealthy women in the world, yet even the most famous people have their secrets. On her show last Friday (Jan. 21), Oprah announced that on Monday’s show (Jan. 24th) she would be revealing a family secret. When Monday came, Oprah was reunited for the first time with her half sister Patricia.

When Oprah was 9 years old, her mother Vernita Lee, became pregnant with a baby girl. She could not afford another child at the time so she decided to give the baby up for adoption without saying a word to anyone.
Patricia Lloyd searched for her birth mother numerous times. The first time she gave up very quickly. She began her search again through the adoption agency. That same day Patricia caught a TV news story about a woman named Vernita Lee, who was talking about information that matched the details in her adoption records. Lee still refused to meet her, denying the claims that Patricia was her daughter.
This recent stir of information sent Patricia to a Wisconsin restaurant owned by Winfrey’s niece, showed her the adoption documents and revealed her suspicion that they were related. Patricia and the niece underwent DNA testing, which proved a positive match.
It sounds like a wonderful reuniting of family but a few questions remain unanswered. There were no DNA tests that were revealed between Oprah and Patricia. DNA testing did prove that Oprah’s niece and Patricia were related but that does not necessarily mean that Oprah and Patricia are half sisters. Where is the proof? It sounds like Oprah needs to get her GTL on and get a DNA siblings test to find out if after all these years; Patricia really is her half sister.
