The body parts delivered to schools in Vancouver earlier this month have been identified through DNA testing as belonging to Luke Magnotta’s lover Jun Lin. Magnotta, suspected of murdering Jun Lin, a Chinese student at Concordia University, is also suspected to be involved in another unsolved but similar case that took place in Miami long before this incident.
Luke Magnotta shipped various body parts belonging to Jun Lin to different locations throughout Canada. The Conservative Party of Canada in Ottawa received a package containing Lin’s foot. A hand was also found at another location in Ottawa. The remaining foot and hand were mailed to two separate schools in Vancouver, where Canadian police were able to successfully identify the body parts.
St. George’s private school and False Creek Elementary, both in western Vancouver, received the gruesome packages containing Lin’s foot and hand. Police immediately took action to recover and identify the body parts, so that the schools could continue to function as quickly as possible. No doubt, these two schools will need some time to recover from such a terrifying event, but not much can be done to reverse the horror delivered on those dreadful days.
The identity of the body parts was almost certain from the beginning, but officials had to be sure before making any statements, especially to the parents of Jun Lin. His parents were very cooperative with the Canadian police and helped them to confirm the identity of the body parts. This, along with the DNA testing performed by Canadian officials, has lead officers to successfully confirm and report that it was in fact Jun Lin that Magnotta murdered and dismembered.
Most of Lin’s body parts have been located so far. The torso of Jun Lin was found in a trash bin. His body was fitted into a suitcase and most likely disposed of by Magnotta himself. No accomplices have yet entered the picture.
Lin was a student at Concordia University, 33 years old, and a Chinese immigrant who made the fateful decision to become romantically involved with Luke Magnotta.
As of right now, the head of Jun Lin is still missing, but its discovery has become a main concern for Canadian police. The parents and family of Jun Lin wish for the head to be discovered so that they can find closure in this most horrible incident, and hopefully begin to recover.
Magnotta apparently filmed the entire murder, from his stabbing Lin to death with an ice pick, to his performing sexual acts with certain body parts. Canadian police have found this incident to be particularly gruesome and difficult to handle. However, with the help of DNA testing they have been able to quickly solve this case.
However, on June 4th Magnotta was taken into custody in Berlin, where he had been hiding since the murder took place. Magnotta is being charged with first degree murder.
