One in every ten new mothers in the US is a teenage mother. Did you know that the US has the highest rate of teenage pregnancy in the entire developing world? With 745,000 girls under the age of 20 getting pregnant each year, what is happening in the US that is perpetuating this problem?

DNA test teenage pregnancy 199x300 Teenage Moms: Teen Pregnancy in AmericaThe rate of teen pregnancies in developing countries is much higher and expectedly so. There is a lack of sex health education and birth control options like condoms and contraceptives. In the United States though, there are numerous ways and places to get condoms and birth control pills, for free in some cases. And high school curriculums include sex ed for senior students.

Safe sex is promoted by a number of organizations including Planned Parenthood. But for some strange over $38 billion taxpayer dollars are still going to support and fund teen childbearing.

Fifty-nine percent of teenage girls who get pregnant welcome their pregnancy and decide to have their baby. Teen pregnancies are more common in some cultural backgrounds and the pregnancy is celebrated and embraced.

Fortunate teen moms have the support of family and friends and enjoy all the milestones that accompany a pregnancy. Like finding out the baby’s gender and choosing a name, the baby shower and so on.

Abstinence

The most popular method of teaching sex education in the United States is by promoting abstinence and virginity pledges. A study from Yale and Columbia found though that 88-percent of youth that pledge abstinence end up having premarital sex anyway.

The countries that have the lowest teen birth rates are the countries that advocate sex health education, open communication and sex reproduction.

Paternity Tests Shift the Role of Fatherhood

It is apparent that the times have changed since the 1950s when the nuclear family dominated American neighborhoods of suburbia and white picket fences. The once defined roles of men and women in society and in their families have since been broken.

Women are no longer designated to the homes and men are no longer the only sources of income for the family.

The one factor that hasn’t changed is the social stigma that accompanies teen pregnancies. Forty-percent of births are out of marriage. And nearly 80-percent of fathers of children born to teenage parents do not get married.

Many teenage dads demand paternity tests to prove their paternity. The newest and risk-free prenatal test, the Non-invasive Prenatal Paternity Test, analyzes circulating cell-free fetal DNA in the mother’s blood to narrow down paternity.

Paternity often becomes an issue in court when biological fathers refuse to pay child support or deny their responsibility. This is when DNA and genetic testing is ordered by the courts.

Abortions

One of the most difficult decisions a pregnant woman will ever have to make, teenager or adult, is the decision to go through with an abortion. In America, 27-percent of teen pregnancies end in abortion.

A child’s chance of growing up in poverty is nine times greater than other children if the following three factors are true: they were a teenage pregnancy, their parents were not married and their mother has no high school diploma or GED.

Unfortunately those socioeconomic factors are prominent in teen pregnancies. In recent years to try and prevent teenage pregnancies the government has made more initiatives to provide sexual education about reproduction and STDs especially in inner city neighborhoods.

Why do you think the US has the highest rate of teen pregnancies among developed countries? And what can we do to change that?

Muammar Gaddafi: Surprising DNA Test Results

After his slaying, it’s reported that Gaddafi’s body was flown to Misrata and placed inside the freezer of a local market. His body was then put on public display as proof of Gaddafi’s death, stirring up Libyans from all over the country that came to view their ex-ruler’s dead body.

Investigators then performed DNA testing on Gadaffi’s body to confirm his identity when a surprising finding came to light. “The Washington Post reports Friday that when investigators performed DNA testing on Gadhafi’s body, they learned that the vainglorious strongman was wearing a wig. Interim Prime Minster Mahmoud Jibril told the Post that an autopsy team took samples of Gadhafi’s blood, saliva and hair–and soon discovered that the hair did not actually belong to the former dictator” according to Yahoo News.

Steve Jobs Yearbook HS 150x150 The Guarded Personal Life of Steve Jobs: His Illegitimate Child and Adoptive Past

In high school Steve Jobs fathered a child.

Though the renowned entrepreneur and tech genius, Steve Jobs, led a guarded personal life, it had been no secret that he was adopted. Steve Jobs had a dramatic biological family background, with a less than traditional relationship with that part of his past. In 1955 Steve Jobs was born and immediately put up for adoption. Years later he would experience a similar situation when his high school sweetheart would give birth a baby girl that Jobs would remain estranged from for many years.

It is hard to believe that a man who dropped out of college to pursue spiritual enlightenment with a pilgrimage to India would actually deny what he probably always knew. On May 17, 1978 his then high school girlfriend gave birth to his daughter Lisa. For two years Jobs denied paternity and refused to accept his responsibilities as a father.

Going back to his past, Steve’s own biological father played that same role, abandoning his family. Shortly after Steve Jobs was put up for adoption, his biological parents actually ended up marrying and having a daughter. But shortly after Steve’s sister was born in 1962, his father, Abdulfattah “John” Jandali, left his family and filed for divorce.

Maybe it was Steve’s own issues with his own family history that caused him to react the way he did towards his daughter Lisa. Finally in 1986 Jobs acknowledged paternity for Lisa and the father and daughter were able to start building a relationship.

Though Steve Jobs went as far as swearing in court that he was “sterile and infertile, and as a result thereof, did not have the physical capacity to procreate a child.” Around the time of Lisa’s birth, an Apple computer was actually named the Apple Lisa computer. Jobs claimed that it had nothing to do with his daughter and that the name came from the acronym “Local Integrated Software Architecture.” Only Steve Jobs will ever really know the truth.

A local Pakistani doctor may be charged with treason for allegedly aiding in the U.S. raid that killed al-Qaeda leader and FBI Most Wanted Terrorist, Osama bin Laden on May 2, 2011. A treason charge is being recommended by Pakistani officials that can potentially lead to a death sentence.

osama binladen 300x207 Pakistani Doctor Facing Treason for Helping CIA Get Osama bin Laden DNA

Dr. Shakil Afridi was taken into custody by the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency in Pakistan, the country’s spy agency. The agency has been very vocal about their outrage over the covert operation that lead to Bin Laden’s death.

Dr. Shakil Afridi is accused of “conspiracy against the state of Pakistan and high treason” where officials are claiming that Dr. Afridi “could have saved Pakistan from that humiliation it faced after the operation.” Javed Hussain, a retired army brigadier went on to explain that Pakistani courts will most likely pursue this.

The evidence against Dr. Afridi claims that an immunization program he started was a fluke in accordance with CIA efforts to confirm that Osama bin Laden was hiding out in Abbottabad. The vaccination program gave reason for access to Bin Laden’s DNA.

This issue has been raising tensions between the United States and Pakistan for a variety of reasons. For one, America’s decision to execute this operation without informing Pakistan has embarrassed the Pakistani government. And secondly, the U.S. and the rest of the world are questioning how Osama bin Laden managed to live in Abbottabad for five years undetected.

Critics are now crying out about the vaccination ruse carried out by the CIA, highlighting the negative effects this will have on aid groups attempting to gain trust in militant countries.

Shortly after his death this past may, officials once again used DNA to confirm that it was in fact Osama bin Laden who died in that raid.

DNA is the most reliable means of confirming identity. DNA is 99.99% accurate because each individual has a DNA sequence that is a unique combination of genetic material from both parents. Specific sequences in a DNA are compared and examined to increase accuracy of tests.

VaccinationRuse Afridi Treason 300x225 Pakistani Doctor Facing Treason for Helping CIA Get Osama bin Laden DNA

Dr Afridi ran a fake hepatitis campaign in Abbottabad, to provide CIA with DNA samples of bin Laden's children.

This DNA accuracy is exactly the reason why getting Osama bin Laden’s DNA before the raid was necessary. Imagine if the raid occurred and it turned out an American operation on Pakistani land lead to the death of the wrong man?

Dr. Afridi is still in custody with the ISI and has no legal representation. The BBC has reported that the Obama Administration has called for the release of Dr. Afridi to live in the United States but the likelihood of Pakistan giving into those pressures is very slim.

If you ever need DNA testing for any reason, many companies offer it at affordable prices with extreme accuracy.

Finding it difficult to maintain composure, Amanda Knox plead to an Italian court earlier today shortly before the courts deliberated her official sentencing. In 2009, Amanda Knox and her boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito were charged with the stabbing and rape of Amanda’s English roommate, Meredith Kercher. Knox and Sollecito have since been trying to prove their innocence and regain their freedom.

Despite the confession Amanda Knox gave to Italian officials, supporters and lawyers for Knox claim that those confessions were attained unlawfully through extreme duress. Through the years Amanda Knox has gained infamy across the world, earning the nickname “Foxy Knoxy” at the peak of her 2009 trial. It seemed as though she had no hope until it was proven by two experts that the DNA evidence supporting her guilt was not reliable.

The verdict was due at 3:30 EDT – Meredith Kercher’s family is in Perugia to support the original sentence given to Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito. Kercher’s family is claiming that the world has already forgotten the brutal death of Meredith Kercher in 2007 at the very young age of 21.

“Everyone needs to remember the brutality of what happened and everything she went through, the fear and the terror and not knowing why,” said Stephanie Kercher, sister of the deceased victim.

amanda knox verdict AP11100308433 540x405 300x225 Amanda Knox is Free, 3 Reasons Why She Was AcquittedBut is the Kercher family blaming the wrong person? Is DNA enough to support their innocence and offset the holes in Knox’s story?

5 Reasons for Possible Innocence

False Confession:

The defense for Amanda Knox believes that the confession obtained by Italian police should be inadmissible due to the manner in which it was attained. They state that not only was Amanda Knox interrogated for an excessive period of time but her lawyer was not present.

Inconsistencies in Evidence:

  • Not only was the DNA not retrieved, documented and stored improperly, but the DNA was also retested and original evidence used to support the case against Knox was found to not be true.
  • There was no blood on the DNA that was said to be the murder weapon.
  • Contamination of the evidence could not be ruled out.
  • The knife wounds found on Kercher’s body did not match the type of knife that was said to be the murder weapon.

There are no eye witnesses to the crime.

Lack of Motive:

From the start of this case in 2007 the prosecution has not been able to determine a motive for why Amanda Knox would kill her roommate and friend, Meredith Kercher.

A few minutes ago the courts gave the verdict to let Amanda Knox go home with her family to Washington in the United States. She can be thankful that the lack of DNA evidence is probably the main reason she was not convicted and was acquitted of murder.

Her then boyfriend and charged accomplice, Raffaele Sollecito was also found not guilty.

Hopefully she can overcome the trauma of four years in prison. She can finally return home and rebuild her life and reputation.
