DNA Links Strauss-Kahn to Hotel Maid – More on the Rape Trial [political cartoons]

It’s the media frenzy encompassing both sides of the East Coast as the trial of former French Finance Minister, Dominique Strauss-Kahn and his accuser, a hotel maid working at the Sofitel hotel near Times Square continues.

SarkozyandStrauss 191x125 custom DNA Links Strauss Kahn to Hotel Maid – More on the Rape Trial [political cartoons]Leaving his hotel on May 14, Strauss-Kahn headed to JFK airport where he would fly home to France and eventually announce his presidential candidacy against Nicolas Sarkozy; however, Strauss-Kahn did not fly home that day.  While waiting for his flight, Strauss-Kahn called the Sofitel Hotel to see if he had left his mobile phone. The hotel asked about his whereabouts and soon enough, officials were at JFK arresting Strauss-Kahn for his alleged rape of a Sofitel employee.

Since the trial has begun, Kahn continues to plead innocent; however, the Associated Press revealed this week that DNA testing found on the maid’s uniform was a match for Kahn, linking him and the maid for the first time in the trial. Strauss-Kahn’s lawyer, Benjamin Brafman commented on the DNA find, stating the evidence “Will not be consistent with a forcible encounter.” The evidence could be used as a defense for Kahn, showing that the sexual act was consensual.

Is Strauss-Kahn Innocent?

Dominque Strauss-Kahn has been described as a loving family man and with his aspirations for French presidency, why would Kahn jeopardize his political career?

DNA Links to Cold Case Sex Crimes and Killings

With the law it is often rare to find a done deal that closes and shuts a case. That is unless you have genetic or DNA proof. Science is one of the few definitive forms of defense or proof that can either put a criminal behind bars or set him free. A cold case is law enforcement jargon for an unsolved mystery—a case that has since been closed due to a lack of leads or substantial evidence.

There was a case of child abductions and murders in Oakland County from February 1976 to February 1977. One of the victims, Kristine Mihelich was found dead at the age of 10. She was missing for 19 days before police found her body. Officials found mitochondrial DNA on her shirt that has recently been matched to James Vincent Gunnel.  Gunnel had been best friends with a nephew of a suspected pedophile in the Flint neighborhood. The pedophile, Christopher Busch, had been charged but never convicted of his crimes until he committed suicide in 1978. Shortly after his death the disappearances and murders also stopped. None of the families of these children have given up. Haunted for many years now, this is the first break the police have gotten in years. With this new found evidence, the family of Kristine Mihelich is demanding answers. Maybe this young girl will finally get justice.

With the help of CODIS, two unsolved murders of two women in Washington State were finally solved. The DNA found in the cars of both women belongs to a sex offender who is currently serving time for a number of sex crime convictions. Tracey Brazzel was murdered at 22 and Patti Berry at 26. Brazzel’s family was shocked to find out the news. Since Brazzel’s body was never uncovered, her family has never found peace. The inmate implicated in the crime has not yet gone to trial.

Timothy Roosevelt Boles DNA Links to Cold Case Sex Crimes and Killings

DNA does it again! Convicted sex offender connected to another crime.

In an almost comical but equally tragic story, an inmate incriminates himself in an attempt to use DNA evidence to prove his own innocence. In Phoenix, Timothy Roosevelt Boles submitted his DNA in an attempt to acquit his previous charges. Boles is currently serving 333-years of time for burglary, kidnapping and other sexual assault charges. The FBI found his DNA in the system after he submitted and solved a 1991 cold case.

The blind eye of the law is meant to bring justice and DNA proof is one of the few forms of unquestioned and unbiased evidence. DNA evidence provides more accurate law enforcement, preventing the wrong men from being imprisoned and allowing the right men to be freed.

Former Governor of California, actor and bodybuilder, Arnold Schwarzenegger, has just admitted that he had an illegitimate child with a member of his household staff more than ten years ago!  After finding out the truth about her husband’s secret past, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s wife of 25 years, Maria Shriver, moved out of their Brentwood home and is now positioning herself for divorce.

This scandalous story comes out after Schwarzenegger confirmed his paternity in a statement to the press on Monday, “After leaving the governor’s office I told my wife about this event, which occurred over a decade ago. I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family. There are no excuses and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused. I have apologized to Maria, my children and my family. I am truly sorry.”

Both the housekeeper and Schwarzenegger’s illegitimate child have been kept out of the news thus far, with their identities still hidden. However since Schwarzenegger did, in fact, admit to paternity, their anonymity can’t be kept secret forever.

Even without taking a DNA paternity test, Schwarzenegger has admitted that he financially supported the child from birth and will continue to support his secret love child.

“I ask that the media respect my wife and children through this extremely difficult time,” the statement concluded. “While I deserve your attention and criticism, my family does not.”
